My NCBI is an online, personal account associated with PubMed. NCBI stands for The National Center for Biotechnology Information, a service of the National Library of Medicine. PubMed is one of NCBI’s popular literature databases.

With My NCBI, you can save and customize search results, create and share your folders, manage your PubMed search history, set up automatic email alerts on your topics, and much more.

Live Library Help in CINAHL@EBSCOhost

We recently added a Live Help Meebo widget in the CINAHL@EBSCOhost database. Live Help is a convenient way to ask a question by instant message while searching CINAHL. After performing a search, the Live Help widget appears on the right side of the search results page.

Just type in your question, hit enter, and one of our Reference Desk staff will help you. Live Library Help from the Reference Desk staff is available Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. If you don’t see us online, email your question to utlibrary@uthsc.edu, or call 448-5404.

UTHSC Publication Database

The UTHSC publication database has been updated and now includes over 9,500 citations published by members of the UTHSC community and indexed in PubMed.

Database coverage goes back to the 1930s. Database updates to add new citations and to update existing citations occur on a weekly basis. You can browse the database by author, year, journal, and MeSH terms. While citation coverage is much improved, the database is not comprehensive and there are limitations. Learn more about how you can help to make this database more comprehensive.

Wiley-Blackwell Journals

New database — Journal Citation Report (JCR) Web

UTHSC faculty and students now have online access to JCR Web 2008 available in both Science and Social Sciences editions. JCR Web allows you to evaluate and compare journals (e.g., most frequently cited journals and highest impact journals in a field) using citation data drawn from over 7,500 scholarly and technical journals. The major purpose and use of JCR Web are to generate journal Impact Factors, a measure of the frequency with which the “average article” in a journal has been cited in a particular year. Based on articles’ cited reference data, JCR Web ranks a journal in its subject categories. The journal ranking information also helps indentify its research importance and impact at the journal and category levels.

mobileMicromedex 2.0 for iPhone® and Blackberry®

Micromedex 2.0 has a mobile version for iPhone®, iPod® Touch, and BlackBerry® 3G device via wireless browser. mobileMicromedex 2.0 gives you the same clinical evidence content you get on your desktop.

You will need to log in with your NetID and password to use mobileMicromedex 2.0.

MICROMEDEX 2.0 is Available

Micromedex provides evidence-based clinical information about drugs, toxicology, diseases, acute care, and alternative medicine for making informed clinical diagnosis and treatment decisions. Micromedex 2.0 is live on Micromedex 1.0 Health Care Series platform.

As the library is the current subscriber to Micromedex 1.0, UTHSC student, faculty, and staff have access to Micromedex 2.0. To access Micromedex 2.0, you need to log in the Micromedex using your NetID and password. Then simply click on “Use Micromedex 2.0 Now” link centered at the top of Micromedex 1.0 screen.

With MICROMEDEX 2.0, you can create a search using a single term (such as a drug, condition, or laboratory test name), or multiple terms (such as two drugs, or a drug and a condition), or asking a simple question (such as what is FDA approved for osteoarthritis?). The search results are displayed in a cleaner interface with the result that was ranked highest in relevance at the top.

Library Streaming Server

The campus domain change will affect the Blackboard links to the Library Streaming Server. Each link in Blackboard will need to be manually updated from utmem.edu to uthsc.edu. These changes must occur before March 1 or connectivity to streaming video and Articulate presentations will be lost. Faculty and staff who have Blackboard links to the Library Streaming Server must make these changes and test the new links.

Here is a correct link example.
