Public Computers and Laptops
Three iMac computers are located on the west side of the 2nd floor, just outside the Media Lab, for use by the general public. A login screen allows creation of a temporary NetID and password to access the Internet. This NetID is automatically deleted after 24-48 hours, so a new one will need to be created on subsequent visits. These computers can also be used by UTHSC faculty, staff and students with your individual NetID and password.
Printing is not available for the general public, however emailing articles as PDF attachments is also possible.
For UTHSC faculty, staff and students, desktop computers are available in three additional locations:
- Research Alcoves (2nd floor, east) – 10 Dell PCs running Windows 7 with Internet access, Microsoft Office 2010, and Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional.
- Media Lab (2nd floor, west) – 6 iMacs, 7 Windows Dell computers, and 2 flatbed scanners.
- Electronic Classroom (3rd floor across from elevator) – 10 iMACs available when instruction classes aren’t scheduled.
7 Dell Laptops and 11 MacBooks are available for checkout and use inside the library by UTHSC students. Laptops can be used for 3 hours or until the battery runs down.
Special note regarding saving files: if you save a file to one of the library’s computers and you want to keep it, make sure you save it to a USB drive or email the file to yourself. Our computers automatically reset themselves periodically. Once restarted, any file you might have placed on the computer will be deleted and cannot be retrieved.
As of July 2012, we also have 5 iPads for 2-week checkout. See http://library.uthsc.edu/information/ipads/ for more information.
